There is life beyond the Primavera Sound in concerts held in Barcelona in the second half of May. Here are our recommendations, which are packed with national product and the performance of legendary rockers.
This Saturday we will go to BeCool to enjoy a live band that already hung the medal of “Local Heroes”. The group of shoegaze and pop noise of Barcelona led by the Australian Etienne Mamo, Dead Parties is in full preparation for his first full-length album, with Paul Quinn (Teenage Fanclub, Primary 5) controling production. If the disk sounds good, the intensity of the trio with their guitars promises to take us to a parallel dimension of impossible sounds.
16/05. BeCool, Pl. Joan Llongueras 5, Barcelona. 22:00h. 10€
MICAH P. HINSON
We do not move from uptown, the next day we have an appointment right next to BeCool. It’s been 10 years since Micah P. Hinson broke into the music scene as one of those very rare phenomena than, in seconds, audiences and critics love. His troubled personal life – with various addictions and prison visit included – added interest to a voice that seemed more of an old Mississippi bluesman that this young man of 23 who, little by little, has become a sort of Johnny Cash of indie generation. “Micah P. Hinson & the Gospel of Progress” (2004) is the album that announced to the world his heartbreaking, dusty and stuck in the roots voice.
17/05. Bikini, Diagonal 547, Barcelona. 20:00h. 22€.
How many hundreds of adolescents had “King George” of Dover in the walkman? There are very few groups in Spain which have received the impact of the locals, media and sales like Dover. After having renewed themselves a thousand times, and celebrate the 15th anniversary of the album that made them to fame, “Devil came to me”, the veteran band of the Llanos sisters return with renewed energy and pure rock to defend their last long “Complications” (2015).
21/04. Bikini, Diagonal 547, Barcelona. 20:00h. 15€ (consumició inclosa).
To critics are the most influential Spanish indie band of all time, for their fans they are simply divine. From Granada, Los Planetas band celebrates 25 years of career going on tour to introduce their new material, the powerful “Doble fatigas” (2015), his new EP after nearly five years of silence. It links psychedelic pop, rock and flamenco-style as the master Morente.
22/05. Apolo, Nou de la Rambla 113, Barcelona. 21:30h. 30€.
We finish the recommendation with just one of the most awaited concerts of the last years for any lover of rock. No categories that are worth when it comes to AC/DC. The iconic and legendary hard-rock band returns to Barcelona in order to make vibrate the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic in a show that promises light, fire and destruction. The Tour will celebrate 40 years of the group and the presentation of his fifteenth album “Rock or bust” (2014), the first without the guitar of one of its founding members, Malcolm Young, who had to leave the band this year for health reasons and will be replaced by the nephew of the founder Angus Young, Steve Young.
29/05. Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Pg Lluís Companys 18, Barcelona. 20:45h. 80€.
