In Catalonia there are three of the most important higher education centers of the world and all are located in the province of Barcelona. They are the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the University of Barcelona (UB), the oldest of them all, whose foundation dates back to the fifteenth century.

The University of Barcelona: tradition, prestige and quality
Structured with Martin the Human, but rejected by the Consell de Cent, Barcelona had to wait half a century to the creation of the General Studies handwriting of Alfonso V of Aragon. Its headquarters would move to Cervera in the eighteenth century and again in mid-1800 to the Catalan capital. Today, it collects some of the more humanistic studies as Philology, Law and Psychology, as well as the medical side with a high level in Biology, Pharmacy or Medicine. It has many affiliated centers and seven campuses located throughout the city
The Autonomous University of Barcelona
Its origins date back to the Second Spanish Republic, when the University of Barcelona changed its name; at the end of Franco in 1968, UAB was born with some own principles to defend: freedom of contract, free admission for students, free writing curriculum and free administration of the entity.
At the same time it provided solutions to overcrowding in classrooms, the UAB has achieved in almost fifty years of history advantage over other careers centers in Education, with a totally renewed system that gave positive reviews internationally.
Today, the Autonomous University of Barcelona excels in engineering, life sciences, political science, history and many other technical, scientific and humanistic studies, being a reference in economics, sociology and philology, for example.
La Universitat Pompeu Fabra
Considered one of the seven best young universities, UPF has become in 25 years in a Campus of International Excellence. With seven very different faculties together: Humanities, Health Sciences, Polytechnic School, Social and Political Sciences, Communication, Law and Translation and Interpretation, offers a quality for exchanges through Seneca and Erasmus.
Also, along the Poble Nou neighborhod, the UPF has begun to extend its main campus to provide personal and professional growth in the social and human sciences, communication and ICT.
