If you enjoy visiting museums, you’re in luck: Barcelona hosts many museums of different topics. But if there is one that stands out as curious, original and different space, it is the Museum of Ideas in Barcelona, also known as MIBA. This place wants to encourage the visitor to open its mind, turn its creativity and accept new perspectives. Sounds good, right?
For this reason, the exhibition is divided into three areas: the unlimited company, where you’ll inventions and innovations that might be something more common in the near future; the reflexionarium where, sooner or later, you will say “someone had to invent it!”: New to always approach a problem.
In addition to its permanent collection, the MIBA, like all museums, has temporary exhibitions; for example, until 2016 you can enjoy the most terrifying ideas of the world: a chair to put suppositories, facial bikini or an anti-journals wrapper, for example.
One of the strengths of this museum is that common sense and seriousness are not very welcome, like for instance the slide that connects a floor to another. Do not look, you will not find another way down! Along the same lines, you will discover that the bathroom is perfectly equipped for inventors, and has everything you need to record all those brilliant ideas you always have… In the worst of times.
This museum is located in the historic heart of the city, just a few minutes from Plaça Sant Jaume. This means you get to it easily, because it is about two stops from different lines (Sant Jaume and Liceu), railway and 5 bus lines.
It is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10-14 h and 16-19 h, Saturdays from 10-20 pm and Sundays and holidays from 10-14 h. Like many museums, tickets range from 8 to € 4 and offer discounts for students, seniors, groups … If you want to book a guide or buy tickets for a group, it is best to call the museum or send an email.
